Zeitlin, Uri

Son of Tzilia and Aharon, was born on December 16, 1929 in Jerusalem. He studied at the Arlosoroff School in Jerusalem and was a member of the student committee. Graduated from the Jerusalem High School. A member of the “Mahanot Haolim” and later a member of the United Movement. He had a good spirit. He was in the training of the United Movement in Kfar Blum and was sent from there to train in the movement, but returned to training because he could not accept his non-combatant position and was appointed to the position of lieutenant colonel. Uri served in one of the Yiftah Brigade battalions and participated in all his activities, fought in the Galilee and descended with the brigade to the Negev, and in early September 1948 the brigade seized a number of trenches east of Ruchama in order to prevent the Egyptian forces from taking control of the area and to ensure the activities of the Minchat The planes were built near Ruhama and were used to transport vital supplies to the Negev, and for about a month were fierce battles in the area, and the signs changed hands several times. Uri fell in Tel Quneitra, during the bombardment of Egypt, on Wednesday Elul Independence (09/08/1948). He was buried in Dorot. On the 17th of Iyar 5709 (4.5.1950), he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
