Zehavi (Elbaz), Merav (Solika)

Daughter of Flory and Albert Elbaz, was born on December 14, 1973 in Dimona. A second daughter in a family of four, a sister to the Golan, Amir and Meital. Meirav studied at the Ami Assaf and Revivim Elementary Schools and at the Lehman Comprehensive High School, where she studied at the Makif High School in Ashdod, Meirav was a disciplined, quiet and modest girl, contented with little and was partly happy, and her main hobby was reading books, which she dedicated to her friends. In July 1991, Meirav enlisted, and after the naval training course she was assigned to the Intelligence Corps. After completing a course in communications and electronics in May 1992, she served in various command positions and saw in her military service a mission she carried with devotion and love. Therefore, it was only natural that she chose permanent service as a way of life, following her father and brother. Meirav made her mark on her surroundings. She displayed gentleness and determination along with will power, leadership and Derech Eretz. She was a model officer, “salt of the earth” and a high personal level, who took responsibility, knew how to withstand pressure and was therefore sought for responsible positions. Meirav displayed a warm personal relationship with those around her and forged special relationships with her subordinates, colleagues and commanders, and was loved by everyone. In her last position, she served as head of the computer department and took part, among other things, in the evacuation from Lebanon. In July 1998, Merav married Golan Zahavi, and in September the following year gave birth to her son, Snir. She lived a happy family life, two years of honeymoon, and planned a large family. When she returned from work, she would cut herself off from her and devote all her time to her son and husband. The family was the center of her life. Meirav was a model wife and mother and combined family life, military career, and studies at the Open University. Two months after her fall she was supposed to receive her bachelor’s degree in political science. On the 29th of Sivan 5760 (29.6.2000), Major Meirav fell while serving in a car accident that occurred while she was on her way to the base where she served, and was buried in the military cemetery in Ashdod at the age of twenty-seven.
