Zechariah, Daniel (“Danny-Boy”)


Son of David and Haviva. He was born in Basra, Iraq, on July 1, 1949. The family immigrated to Israel in 1951. After graduating from elementary school in Petach Tikvah, he was taken from his father and then he was forced to take upon himself the livelihood of the extended family and was hired by the ” He was a realist from his childhood and used to see things as they were in reality and not as pink as the rest of his age – and it came to him because of his rapid departure to work and livelihood at an early age. And his willingness to come to the aid of a friend in times of trouble, was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement in November 1966 S. IDF and it was his idea to volunteer for the paratroopers. But because of his brothers and sisters he had to give up his dream and soon became a tannist. While in regular service, the Six-Day War broke out, and on the first day of the fighting, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (June 5, 1967), in a battle at the Chen Yunes-Rafah junction in the Gaza Strip, Danny’s tank was damaged, but after its repair, when the crew moved to get the forces, his men were hit by an Egyptian tank. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
