Zarchi, Yaacov

Son of Frieda and Ephraim, a descendant of a veteran rabbinic family from the Kiyov sect, was born on April 23, 1930 in Tel Aviv and studied at the school for the children of the workers. At an early age, Yaacov joined an Israeli youth company in the Tel Amal farm in the Beit Shean area and spent three years there in the hachshara. Afterward, he moved to Ruchama in the Negev and in one of the activities of bringing immigrants to the beach he was caught and sent to Cyprus as a new “illegal” immigrant. Yaacov took part in the many activities of the Palmach, where he served two years after leaving Ruhama. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was in Kiryat Anavim and Ma’aleh Hahamisha and fought around Jerusalem. From Beit Surik, in the battle that developed, Yaacov fell on the 14th of Shevat 5708 (25.1.1948) and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
