Zamir, Udi-Yehuda


Son of Masha and Meir. He was born on March 29, 1968 in Rehovot. At the age of thirteen, Udi was orphaned by his father, who was a lieutenant colonel in the armored corps. After finishing his studies at the Bechor Levy Elementary School, Udi continued in the “De Shalit” junior high school in Rehovot and completed his high school studies in the biological track at the agricultural boarding school in Pardes Hannah. Udi was a child of nature, a child of flowers and love. He loved the country and its landscapes and loved to travel in Rehavia. He loved the sea and liked diving. Udi loved and was loved in his life and death. As a member of a bereaved family he could have been discharged from combat duty, but he insisted that he serve in such a unit, seeing it as a continuation of his father’s path. Udi was drafted into the IDF in the middle of November 1987, and after basic training he followed his father and was assigned to the armored corps as a tank driver, and his commanding officer chose him to be his own tank driver. Was prepared to perform difficult tasks with precision and without complaints, and was called up for reserve duty in December 1992, during which he fell in a battle in the Sajaiya neighborhood of Gaza on December 7, 1992. An IDF patrol force, Was killed by a unit of terrorists from a moving vehicle, and Udi was killed in the clash with Lieutenant Hagai Amit and Combatant Officer Shalom Tsabari. Dibbot, the city he was born in, not far from the grave of his father, left behind a mother and sister, Orly, who was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and in his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Thanks to him and his family. Udi went to serve with us a relatively short time ago and immediately stood out in his will. That’s why the company commander chose him to be his driver in the tank, and we have not yet learned his acquaintance, as Udi himself has not yet exhausted his life. ” The mayor of Rehovot, Michael Lapidot, also eulogized him, saying, among other things: “Today we have a wound in the ground of this city, and into it we brought Udi to eternal rest”
