Zalmanowicz, Eliezer
Son of Zalman and Rebecca. Born and raised in the development town of Shlomi, on the 22nd of Kislev 5710 (November 22, 1949), he studied at the elementary school in Moshav Betzet and after graduating from the Western Galilee High School near Acco. At the vocational school “Neurim” near Kfar Vitkin, he studied mechanical engineering and mechanical equipment and joined the Israel Defense Forces in November 1967. In November 1967, he was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces. After a few months, while he was still on duty, he set out to retaliate against the bases of the Jordanian terrorists. This operation is known as Operation Karameh, the town where enemy saboteurs were concentrated in order to leave for Israel. This operation fell on the 21st of Adar 5728 (March 21, 1968). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. It should be noted that Eliezer was the first to fall from the town of Shlomi, where he was also the first graduate of the primary school where he studied, the first high school graduates. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family and noted Eliezer as a dedicated and loyal soldier who was in a combat unit despite being able to be discharged from the army in terms of his physical ability. His great activism and strong desire to work was a great thing among his commanders.
