Zakai (Zacimovich), Nachum

Nachum, son of Eliezer-Ze’ev and Rivka Zakai (Zacimovich), was born in 1911 in Goniud (Bialystok District), Poland. In 1929 he immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Hameuchad and eventually settled in Ayelet Hashachar and worked as a farmer. From the beginning he was active in the Hagana. During the Second World War, he devoted himself to matters of procurement of weapons. The British intelligence service imprisoned him but he was released from prison by the Palmach and hid outside his farm for more than a year, writing stories published in a weekly supplement for children. He took part in an officer’s course, and on 5 Iyar (April 30, 1952) he fell and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Ayelet Hashachar. He left behind his wife and four children.
