Zaid, Yosef
Yosef son of Bechora and Shalom was born on January 1, 1931, in Tel Aviv. He completed elementary school and went to study agriculture. A gentle and brave boy, thirsty for life and action, and knew what is before him. He worked for a farmer in Birkona and wanted to settle there. Yosef was still in the middle of his training and volunteered for the army before the draft was announced. At first, he was in the Lower Galilee and served in the Givati Brigade. As part of the takeover of the area prior to the expected invasion, the battalion was ordered to occupy the village of Beit Daras. Yosef was in the force that broke into the village, in the face of fierce opposition by the enemy, and in this battle Yosef fell on the 12th of Nissan 5708 (21.4.1948). He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Be’er Tuvia.
