Zahavi, Meir


Son of Mazal and Yosef, was born in 1906 in Jerusalem. After studying in an elementary school for boys, he was admitted to the Beit Hakerem Teachers’ Seminary, completed his studies there, and became a teacher at the Alliance Israelite Universelle in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Meir was sent by the Jewish Agency to Benghazi, Libya, to serve as a teacher there and stayed there for a long time. Used to pass before the box and taught young boys a chapter in the teachings of cantorial. He tended to engage in public work, pursued peace by nature, and made peace between rivals. He has always given a hand and financial support to those in need. He was a member of the Haganah and fought the rioters in the Old City and Hebron during the riots. On the fifteenth day of Tammuz 5708 (July 22, 1948) he fell while fulfilling his duties and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left a wife, three boys and two girls.
