Zaguri, Daniel
Daniel, son of Hannah and Simon, was born on February 27, 1954 in Casablanca, Morocco. In his hometown he completed four years of schooling at the “Consul” elementary school, and in 1964, at the age of ten, the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Tirat Hacarmel near Haifa. As a member of a traditional family, Daniel enrolled at the Morasha religious elementary school in Tira, and joined the Bnei Akiva youth movement, where he was very active and participated in all its activities. After graduating from elementary school, he studied electronics at the Tzitrin High School, near Atlit. After two years of education he was forced to give up his studies to work and help with the household agriculture. He was very diligent and did not spare any effort in his work – he worked overtime and paid all his wages to his parents, whose income was minimal. When he was seventeen he was accepted to the Armament Corps boarding school, where he studied mechanics. Although his profession as a diesel car mechanic required quite a few physical forces, Daniel did not prevent himself from enjoying the pleasures of life. He loved to meet with people, to party, to visit relatives all over the country, and especially – he liked to travel, picnics and trips. He was very interested in pop music and soul, and was considered an expert in this area in the neighborhood. At his home the radio was open for long hours and he sat next to him listening to music. “From his childhood, Danny was very diligent, at school and at work, at home always helping parents, and in all his vacations – both in school and in the army – he devoted his time to the family, and he never demanded money from his parents. He was very fond of a people’s company – during his vacations, he would hurry to his friends and not forget one of them: Danny was a center of information about the family, because he visited his uncles and aunts all over the country, loved them all and loved them all. Perfection will not suffice to describe how friendly and humane Danny was. ” Daniel was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early April 1972, and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps and served in a profession he acquired during the Yom Kippur War, as a tank mechanic in the battles in the Golan Heights on October 6, 1973. He was injured by enemy fire and fell. He was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. He was survived by a father, mother, three brothers and four sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Daniel was a talented soldier and loved by his comrades, and he performed his duties with devotion and loyalty, in the best possible way.”
