Zadok, Michael

Born in Tel Aviv, on the 8th of Shvat, 5706. Michael began his studies in an elementary school in Hatikva neighborhood, continued at a school in Moshav Yarekhiv and studied for one year at the ORT vocational school, He was forced to stop his studies because of the difficult financial situation at home, where he worked at odd jobs, including as a construction worker, and eventually found a job as electrician, and was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1964. In mid-September 1965, after ten months of service, Michael was released from the regular forces and transferred to reserve duty. He took a driving course and served both as a driver and as a motorized runner. Michael fulfilled his difficult task for the best and his commanders expressed their appreciation for him and elevated him to the rank of corporal. In his civilian life, Michael worked as a heavy equipment operator for a contractor for earthworks. Later he was hired by the “Sagiv” printing press and served as a driver of a van. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Michael was called to active service and at the end of the war he was decorated with the battle signal. On the 18th of Nisan 5742 (11.4.1982), Corporal Michael fell during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He left a wife, three daughters, parents and two sisters. In his letter of condolence to the family, his commander said that Michael “was a veteran soldier in our unit, loyal and devoted, and fulfilled his duties effectively throughout his service with us.”
