Zach (Zelekha), Sashi


Sashi, son of Perach and Yehezkel, was born in Petah Tikva on April 12, 1954. He studied at the Kiryat Matalon Elementary School in Petah Tikva and completed his studies at the Ankori High School in Tel Aviv He was a diligent and diligent student, and he was always a true friend and was always willing to help others because of these qualities he became the natural leader of his classmates: he was a sports fan and at the age of eight he joined Maccabi Petah Tikva and was considered Prior to joining the IDF, he served as the head of the Maccabi youth team in Petach-Tikva and often won the best player’s trophy. He was naturally optimistic, cheerful, and friendly. Was devoted to his parents and cared for his family. Sassi was drafted into the IDF at the end of February 1973 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he completed his basic training in tank artillery and graduated as an outstanding soldier. His commanders point out that a soldier was responsible and dedicated to his role and served as an example to his friends in his comfortable temperament and obedience. In his unit he bought him many friends and everyone attests to him, who was always willing to help with advice or action. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Sashi was at home on a special holiday. He quickly joined the Armored Corps and participated in the braking battles in the northern sector of Sinai. On the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (October 7, 1973) he was injured in the shelling near the “Mifrat” outpost, and was killed. For a long time he was considered missing, but about four months after his fall his body was identified and he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. About a year after his fall, the name of the Maccabi Petah Tikva youth group was changed to Sashi Zach.
