Yossi (Yosef) Karkash


Yosef, son of Yeshayahu and Leah (Lizet) Karkash, was born on April 22, 1965 in Afula. Yossi joined the IDF in mid-April 1983 and served in the Golani Brigade. On the 6th of Av 5766 (6.8.2006), soldiers of the Hiram Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade and the combat support platoon of the battalion provided a logistic response to the combat forces and waited for the order to enter Lebanon. During their organization at the entrance to the cemetery on Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, they were hit directly by a Katyusha rocket fired by Hizbullah terrorists. Yossi was killed along with eleven other reserve soldiers. He was forty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Afula. Survived by Raya, two daughters, parents and four sisters. After his fall he was promoted to lieutenant.
