Yosef, Yochai
Yochai, son of Bracha and Menachem Yosef, was born on May 15, 1914, in the British colony of Eden. Yochai immigrated to Israel with some of the family in 1930. Thanks to his diligence and talent, he was promoted to work as an accountant for the Broadcasting Service (“Kol Yerushalayim”). In the winter of 1948 he was unable to sit in his office while his friends and neighbors stood in the battle for the protection of the Holy City and the establishment of the Jewish state, and as a member of the Jerusalem Brigade, he became involved in the war activities on 12 Iyar, May 21, 1948. The Beit Yisrael neighborhood was attacked by the attackers from Sheikh Jarrah and Yochai was wounded. He died of his wounds, and was buried in Sheik Badar A. He left a wife, Batya, a son and a daughter and on 10.9.1950, he was transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
