Yosef Kachlon

Yosef (Yossi), son of Julia and Aaron, was born on the 4th of Elul 5713 (4.9.1953) in Kfar Yona. He studied at the Uziel Elementary School in Ashkelon, and then continued his high school studies at the Rogozin Comprehensive Religious School in Ashkelon, but did not have time to finish his studies. Despite his strong desire to continue high school and high school, Yossi was forced to leave school and went to work to help support his family with many children. His hope was that one day he would be able to complete his matriculation exams and become a tour guide. For a long time he was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement, first as a trainee and later as a counselor. Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early May 1971. After completing his training at the Armored Corps School, he was ordained as a tank gunner, and despite his many family problems, Yossi loved his military role and fulfilled them impeccably. Among the soldiers of the armored corps who were sent to the southern front, his friend, Davidovitch, later said: “Sim Paz, we will win! These were the last words of a fierce warrior, who even in his last moments, when his body was bleeding, had not forgotten his people and his homeland. The last words of a hero. He did not forget his family and for her he left the last will, which is hope and confidence in the victory of the Jewish people. But it all began four days earlier, on the eve of Yom Kippur. We were all summoned from the house, and Yossi, who stayed at the base, greeted us. The next day we went to the synagogue and Yossi wanted to be a cantor, because he knew how to curl in his throat. But we did not have time to listen to the prayer, because the siren sounded at the base from the synagogue. Throughout the night we were busy preparing the tanks, and as we did so, we turned to the commander of one of the companies, requesting that he join us in one of the tank crews. But the device was full. The work and preparations continued until Sunday morning, and then we turned to the brigade commander, asking us to go down to Sinai to fight. On October 13, 1973, during the battle on the “Spider” axis, Yossi was hit and taken to a rescue tank, but when the tank arrived at the evacuation station, it turned out that Yossi had fallen on the way. For a while he was considered a missing person and later declared as an unknown burial place until his body was discovered in Sinai, and he was brought to eternal rest in the Ashqelon cemetery, leaving behind parents, five brothers and five sisters.
