Yosef, Eliyahu
Eliahu, son of Chana and Rada, was born on June 23, 1951, in Nahariya, where he studied at the Rambam Elementary School and at the high school in Nahariya, where his childhood was not at all easy. In the early years of his life, his parents lived in a small hut complex. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in August 1969 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he passed the courses. In the Yom Kippur War he fought on the southern front, in the battles of containment and incursion against the Egyptians. In the battles that took place on the “Chinese farm” on October 16, 1973, his tank was hit and Eli fell. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Nahariya, leaving behind his parents, two sisters and a brother. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “His actions and perseverance in this long war served as a source of strength for his comrades.” The family donated a Torah scroll to his memory, which was placed in the Tiferet Israel synagogue in Nahariya.
