Yonah, Amos


Son of Mazal and Shalom, was born on September 29, 1943, in the city of Tripoli, Libya. In 1952 the family immigrated to Israel and settled in a transit camp near Hadera. Amos enlisted in the IDF in October 1960 and was appointed as a cook in the Golani Brigade. Prior to his discharge from the regular service he was able to move and help support the family. He was stationed in the Haganah and participated in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, and on the first day of Tammuz 5739 (26.6.1979) he was called up for reserve duty and took the bus from Arad to his unit base. On the way the bus overturned and fell into the abyss. Amos was killed and laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. He was 36 when he died. He left behind a wife, five children, parents, two sisters and two brothers.
