Yokelson, Moshe


He was born in 1919 in the city of Kowel, Poland. In his city he studied at the Hebrew Gymnasium “Tarbut” and from his youth was active in the Zionist movement. In 1939 he emigrated to Israel and a few weeks later joined the British Army’s British Expeditionary Force and participated in the campaign in France. From there he moved to England, to southern Africa, and to Egypt, where he joined Commando 51 and took part in the campaign in Eritrea. With the establishment of the Jewish Brigade was joined to its ranks and fought in Italy. One day he received a short vacation to visit the graves of the Hebrew soldiers at the cemetery in Bravona, but a car accident occurred and he was seriously injured. He fought for his life for three months, and on 19 Tamuz, June 30, 1945, he died of his wounds in the hospital in Bari. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Bari, Italy.
