Yitzhaki, Lotan
Son of Hannah and Joseph z “l, he was born on February 24, 1961 in Afikim. Lotan’s father was born in Russia, and as a young man he went to America and studied at Yeshiva University. He acquired knowledge in the field of Judaism, and even wrote an important study on the language of the Enlightenment. When he arrived in Israel, his father settled in Kibbutz Afikim and was one of the veteran kibbutz members. Lotan’s mother was the daughter of the Jewish scholar Yekutiel Neubauer, who during the Second World War was abroad and was active in the underground in the Netherlands, later immigrating to Israel and joining Kibbutz Afikim. To instill a love of the land, while he was a boy (only 10 years old) his father took him on a walk along the length and breadth of the country, which left a strong impression on Lotan. Lotan studied at the kibbutz elementary school and continued to study at the regional school. Shortly before the outbreak of the battles of the Peace for Galilee War, he completed the course of the squad commanders and was assigned to the unitץ On 3 Tammuz 5742 (24.6.1982), Lotan fell in the battle of Hamdan and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Afikim. He left behind a mother, a brother and three sisters. With the help of the family, Lotan House was established in Moshav Aderet. Lotan House was designed to serve educational and cultural activities for the children of the moshav, in the spirit of Lotan’s guidance.
