Yitzhak, Mordechai


Mordechai, son of Rachel and Asher, was born in 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. The family lived in Maoz Zion in the Mevasseret Yerushalayim. Mordechai completed his studies at the Ariel Elementary School in Jerusalem in 1964. He then worked as a construction worker until his enlistment. He was a quiet boy, withdrawn and lonely. He never complained about difficulties. He was short, but braced for his work. Mordechai was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in February 1968. After completing basic training, he completed a tank driver course at the Armored Corps School, where he was stationed in a tank battalion and served as a tank driver in February 1971. In February 1971 Mordechai completed his regular service. And in the battles of the bridge, which took place on October 18, 1973, Mordecai fell. Shalev, who was driven on a barge in a ditch, was hit by an enemy shell and fell into the sea. A letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote that Mordecai had excelled in great courage, despite his soul in the campaign, and fulfilled the mission that was imposed on him, and that the commanders of Mordechai and his comrades They loved him.
