Yisraeli, Gershon

Gershon, only son of Aharon and Fania Yisraeli, was born on March 15, 1934, in Kibbutz Gvati. In November 1953 he was drafted into the IDF and participated in the Sinai Campaign in a reconnaissance unit that made its way to Sharm el-Sheikh. Gershon was discharged from the brigade where he served and was transferred to the regional defense force in Gush Katif. On June 5, 1967, when he heard the broadcast that the war had begun, he rushed to his unit immediately before the order arrived, and the next day, on the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), Gershon fell in the camp. He left a wife and three girls, the youngest of whom was about ten months old. He was buried in the military cemetery in Afula and was later transferred to eternal rest in the cemetery in his kibbutz.
