After completing basic training, he began recruiting a new brigade for the Golani Brigade, this time for the Sayeret. At his request, Eyal moved to the reconnaissance unit and began a new basic training course, this time with very difficult training. He had difficulties, he did not complain, and he was pleased when he was posted as a combat soldier in the reconnaissance unit. He served in the north, in a region he loved most. His hope was that after he was discharged from regular service he would go to settle in the Galilee. When the Peace for Galilee War began, Eyal went with his unit to Lebanon. This unit occupied the fortress of Beaufort, and continued to advance in the eastern sector towards Nabatiye. Near the eye of the crawl, the unit encountered a Syrian ambush. Eyal was hit and killed. He was 20 years old when he died, on the 19th of Sivan 5742 (10.6.1982). Eyal was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents, two brothers and a sister. His family published a pamphlet in his memory.
