Yirmi, Shimshon

Son of Dvora and Yehuda, was born in 1932 in Yemen, the capital of Yemen, and in 1944 immigrated to Israel with the family that settled in Ra’anana. From an early age he stopped studying and went to work in the building to support his mother. As a member of Hanoar Haoved, he went to training in Ein Gev and from there volunteered to defend the homeland and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. With the entry of the Arab Legion into the fighting, Jerusalem’s situation worsened and the road to it was cut off by the Legion system in Latrun. Operation “son of-Nun A” was intended to break through. The task was assigned to the 7th Brigade, and Shimshon’s battalion would be reinforced by this brigade and it was tasked to conquer Latrun. The attacking forces encountered better enemy forces and had to retreat. This battle fell on the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948). On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
