Yifrah, Mordechai (Habib)


Son of Tzipora and Shimon was born in the Old City of Jerusalem on February 11, 1929. Mordechai studied in the elementary school and was a locksmith by profession, working in a factory in Tel Arza, and from his youth he knew and recognized the importance of defending the Holy City and practiced In November 1947, immediately after the United Nations General Assembly decided to partition the country into two states, he enlisted and enlisted in the ranks of the youth of his neighborhood who had not yet come to know the current situation. He participated in operations and accompanied convoys around Jerusalem. He served in the “Moriah” battalion of the Etzioni Brigade, the Jerusalem Brigade, and was nicknamed Habib. Mordechai was in the department that set up an ambush for Arab transport on the Jerusalem-Ramallah road. On the way back to Atarot they were attacked by an Arab mob and its title. In this battle, on the 23rd of Adar I 5708 (March 4, 1948) with the 16 who were defeated after a heroic war of few against many, he was left with a pair of hand grenades and through it at the enemy, “He was buried in Sanhedria, and on the 5th of Elul 5711 (1959), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
