Yevdiev, Baruch (Boris)
Son of Hayat and Zechariah was born on March 4, 1939 in Baku, the Soviet Union. Baruch graduated from elementary school and high school in his hometown. After graduating, he worked for a living in carpentry. His main hobby was also handicraft, and he also worked on assembling various machines. When he was 18 years old, Baruch was drafted into the Russian army and spent three years as a clerk in the military police corps. When he was released from the army, he returned to work in carpentry and pottery. While in Russia he married his girlfriend well, and the couple had five sons and daughters. Baruch was a devoted father to his children, and spent a lot of time with them in his spare time. He was very interested in politics and followed the world through various newspapers and broadcasters. In 1979 Baruch immigrated to Israel with his family and settled in Acre. A short while later, he found a job at the “Kurdani” base near his home. At the beginning of June 1980, Baruch was drafted into the IDF and placed in the IAF, after recruits for new immigrants who had reached the age of enlistment. At the end of July 1981, he was called up for reserve duty and went out willingly and without complaint. On the 14th of Av 5741 (August 14, 1981), Baruch fell in the line of duty and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. He left behind a wife and five children, parents, brother and sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Despite his brief stay in the battalion, his commanders knew that Baruch was friendly to all his friends, devoted to his job and doing everything that was best done to him.”
