Yehuda, Mordechai

Mordechai, son of Chana and Avraham Yehuda, was born on February 28, 1928 in Jerusalem. He moved to Haifa where he completed the elementary school “Atid.” He worked to help his family and began to study electrical engineering at the vocational school of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In March 1948, he enlisted in the service of the homeland, first serving in the navy and then being transferred to ground service in one of the divisions of the “HaPortzim” battalion. Mordechai took part in operations against Kolonia and Beit Mahsir and in the seizure of outposts on the road from Sha’ar Hagai to Jerusalem.
Towards the end of April 1948, the “Yevusi” operation was carried out in the Jerusalem area in order to create a territorial contiguity within the city and between Jerusalem and the northern communities, and on April 22-23, the attack on Shu’fat, Beit Iksa, and Nebi Samuel began at dawn, and the forces had to retreat. Mordechai fell in this battle, on the 14th of Nissan 5708 (April 23, 1948). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
