Yehezkel, Gamliel

Son of Moshe and Juliet. He was born on the 25th of Tishrei 5758 (25.9.1957) in Rehovot, and as a child he moved to Tel Aviv and completed his elementary studies at the Beit Ya’akov religious school, where he was one of the first to prepare for prayer. His friends and family often emphasize two traits that characterized Gamliel: his integrity and his willingness to help others: “The money was not in our family with many children. And when they bought something for Gamliel, he would first ask if his big and beloved brother had also received his share. Gamliel had once received warm winter clothes from Mama. He was Simcha about the new clothes, but when he heard that his brother who was studying in Jerusalem was walking there exposed to the cold, he gave the brother his clothes as a present. And this is just one story among many. A lot of good wishes were kept inside him. Gamliel worked in the carpentry shop, and when his brother stood before marriage, Gamliel said to him, “You will marry and continue to study, and I will support you until I marry.” Unfortunately, he did not manage to fulfill his will. Seven months before Gamliel fell, his younger brother died in a tragic way. Gamliel treated his stunned parents with unlimited devotion, took all the housework and comforted his parents in their moments of deep sorrow. At the same time, Gamaliel made it difficult for him to retire from pleasures for a whole year in memory of his dear brother. He did not realize his vow either. On May 19, 1975, Gamliel was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Intelligence Corps, where he completed his studies in an orderly manner and was sent to the Military School of Education, where he completed his studies there at the age of 90. In his service, . On July 12, 1977, Gamliel joined the members of the unit that was sent to the exhibition grounds in Tel Aviv for an exhibition of the Intelligence Corps. During the construction of the installations, one of Gamliel’s friends worked with a nail-gun. Gamliel, who was standing nearby, was hit in the head by a nail that was fired and was not picked up by iron. He was rushed to Ichilov Hospital, but after three weeks, on the 30th of Av 5737 (30.7.1977) he died. He was 20 years old. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “During his service in the unit, Gamliel was discovered as a diligent and disciplined soldier who fulfilled with dedication and loyalty every task and mission that was imposed upon him.
