Yefet, Shlomo
Shlomo, son of Shoshana and Haim, was born on March 21, 1952, in Cochin, India. In 1953 his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Moshav Nevatim. Shlomo began his studies at the elementary school in Nevatim and after seven years of studies moved to the Eshel Hanasi school, where he graduated from elementary school. He continued to study at the Eshel Hanasi School in the agricultural-theoretical track and successfully passed the matriculation exams. Shlomo was an outstanding student who had achieved outstanding achievements in his studies. His high grades were a subject of his classmates’ envy and a source of happiness for his parents, who encouraged him to study and help him progress. He had an excellent grasp and excelled in sharp intellect and a thorough and profound way of thinking. He never satisfied himself with the material he learned in the school, and with his own efforts he sought ways to enrich his knowledge and expand his education. He often engaged in independent research and often surprised his teachers and friends by introducing new and original ideas after studying various books he had read. His answers to the questions, the essays he wrote and the lectures he prepared, were very clear, wide and rich. He was able to establish the opinions he expressed and to support them with great and wise words. Therefore, his views were acceptable to his teachers. Shlomo was known for his good manners and pleasant manner. Although he was very knowledgeable, he reduced his knowledge and allowed his friends to say their words, and only after them would he add his own. At the same time, he was able to express his views and opinions and in the course of an argument he would protect them with great enthusiasm and firmness, until he convinced others of his righteousness. He was active in agricultural work and was considered a responsible and dedicated worker. He chose to work in the flock industry, which attracted a few volunteers. He loved his work and instilled this love in his friends as well. He was also an outstanding athlete and participated in competitions for individuals and group competitions, especially in the field of volleyball. He has won many victories and attests to the certificates and medals he received. He was a courageous athlete, who knew how to accept his victors with dignity, and with losses, which would have motivated him to improve his ability and aspire to victory in the next competition. He was active in the school’s sports committee and organized the inter-class competitions in memory of the school graduates who fell in the Israeli army. Shlomo was active in the social life of the school and was considered the spirit of the cultural activities, especially organizing class parties. He gave him a pleasant and pleasant atmosphere, loved to tell jokes and sing, and carried his friends with his enthusiasm and joy of life. He volunteered to organize parties and social gatherings, where he was energizing and stimulating and his pleasure was great when he saw more and more members taking part in the general joy. Shlomo liked to travel around the country. He was the center of a group of friends and went out with them to explore landscapes and sites in Israel. He liked to navigate the country’s paths, and on a map that he kept with him he would mark the routes he had traversed. He was interested in flora and fauna and knew how to set the dates of the trip to the flowering seasons in each region. Thanks to his energetic personality, his academic excellence and his success in sports, Shlomo was sixteen when he was a member of a youth delegation that went to West Germany as part of an exchange of youth groups between Israel and Germany. Shlomo was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early November 1970. After completing basic training he completed a parachuting course and was permitted to wear the paratroopers’ wings, and later completed a course for squad commanders. Even before he was discharged from the IDF, he enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Rehovot, where he hoped to combine his studies with agricultural work, a job he loved and saw in his future. He returned to Moshav Nevatim to contribute to the development of the village and to the advancement of the family farm, and was on the brink of being released from regular service and spent Yom Kippur at his home.
