Yedidya (Gottlieb), Arieh (Bora)
Son of Menucha and Zvi, was born on August 1, 1929, in the town of Trzebinia, in western Poland. The youngest of the sons of a Zionist family in the town. Before he was six years old, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1935. After completing his studies at the elementary school in Haifa, he decided to devote himself immediately to technical work, which tended to follow. His parents and brothers objected to his choice, wanting to continue to study, but he insisted on radio training, and his success in the work attracted the attention of his friends and admirers who greatly admired him. He was preparing to study wireless, and on his way he achieved considerable achievements. When he grew up he decided, to the astonishment and joy of his family, to continue his studies in evening classes. He was a member of the Haganah in Haifa and at the outbreak of the War of Independence he participated in many activities and battles in the city and the surrounding area as a combatant in the Carmeli Brigade. He took part in Mishmar Ha’emek and was wounded in the battle for Ramat Yohanan. Was a brave soldier and very popular with his friends. On the night of the Arab conquest of Haifa, he was added as a machine gunner to a unit that arrived at the Hadrat Kodesh synagogue and continued on its way to Stanton Street. On the way he was hit by a sniper bullet and fell on the 22nd of Nissan 5748 (22.4.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
