Yechiyah, Shmuel


Shmuel, son of Esther and Yacov Yechiyah, was born on January 8, 1927 in Cairo, Egypt. Shmuel worked in the British army in Egypt during the Second World War, and in 1946 he immigrated to Israel wearing a British army uniform. Shmuel moved to Degania Bet and immediately adjusted to life there and with great ease learned the Hebrew language. He served in the Negev Brigade and took part in Operation Horev to remove the Egyptian army from Israel. Shmuel fell in battle in the vicinity of the Rafiah Junction, on the 3rd of Tevet 5709 (4.1.1949) and was buried in Beit Eshel. On the 6th of Elul 5709 (August 31, 1949) he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
