Yechiel Cohen
The eldest son of Zahava and Jacob, the brother of Lipa and Jenny. Born on 29 May 1974 in Tel Aviv, Yechiel began his studies at the “Hanassi” elementary school and continued at the “Harel” elementary school in Bat-Yam. At the end of March 1993 Yehiel enlisted in the IDF and became an interpreter. Yehiel was killed in a car accident near the moshav of Zion, and Yehiel was laid to rest in the Holon cemetery, when he was 20 years old and left behind his parents and two sisters, and in a letter of consolation to the family, Ehud Barak: “Yechiel was an interpreter in the military administration unit in Judea and Samaria and was described by his commanders as a disciplined soldier, who would function very well and was destined for an officers’ course. In another letter of consolation, the unit commander wrote: “Yechiel was a high-quality soldier who stood out from the very first moment of his arrival in the unit and performed all the tasks entrusted to him with responsibility, dedication, seriousness and great interest in his work and high work ethics. I also heard praises from residents of Hebron whom he served and acted against. ” His memory was commemorated, at the family’s request, on a Torah scroll and also through a Torah library donated to the Beit Yaakov synagogue in Bat Yam.
