Yavor, Yaakov Reuven

Son of Nechama and Pinchas. He was born on 15.11.1888 in Bialystok, Poland. In his city he attended elementary school and at the outbreak of the First World War he was drafted into the Russian army. He was captured by the Germans, transferred to a POW camp in Germany and when the Russian-German peace treaty was signed he remained in Germany. After the Nazis came to power in Germany, he succeeded in immigrating to Palestine with his wife, son and two daughters, and settled in Haifa. Here he opened a carpentry shop and saw a blessing in his labor. Jacob was an excellent professional and his work was reputable. Like most of his friends in Haifa, he joined the Haganah. During the 1936-1939 riots, on 26 Tamuz, 26 July 1938, he was seriously wounded in the head by a stone thrown by an Arab rioter. He was taken to Hadassah Hospital where he died of his wounds. He was buried in the Haifa cemetery. He left a wife, a son and two daughters, a brother and a sister.
