Yavetz, Yair
The son of Zusman z “l and Gustava (Gitel) was born on October 25, 1936 in Warsaw. From childhood, Yair absorbed a Zionist atmosphere in his parents’ home, which was the focus of social activities. His father the doctor was killed during the Holocaust. Yair, his sister and his mother were saved and in 1950 immigrated to Israel. Yair was absorbed in Kibbutz Ein Hashofet, where he did his elementary and secondary studies. He completed his matriculation exams on his own. Yair was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early January 1956 and was assigned to the Israel Air Force, where he completed his army service and began working in the air industry. As part of his work, he was sent to France to study at Dassault’s aircraft factories, and upon his return was admitted to the Ministry of Defense and sent to the United States, where he completed his systems analysis. At the same time, he completed his master’s degree in Business Administration and joined the faculty of Tel Aviv University. Yair was a member of the Association of Aeronautical Sciences in Israel. He set up the computer unit at the Abik factory in Ramat-Gan and began planning the computer unit at the Plug-Aman-Bagir-League company. In the reserve service, Yair was stationed from the air force to the liaison unit of the Northern Command, and at the end of November 1974, Yair was called to active reserve duty, and on December 14, 1974, he fell during his service. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, son, mother and sister. In the booklet “In Memory of Them” published in memory of the residents of Kiryat Gat who fell in Israel’s wars, Yair’s way of life and lines to his image were raised.
