Yasom, Zvi
Son of Dov and Genia. Born on January 25, 1931 in Haifa, he was the first member of Kibbutz Gimel (today’s ma’abarot) and at the age of ten he moved with his friends to study at the Hashomer Hatzair educational institution in Mishmar Ha’emek. He was a central member of his group (“Nesher”), in the company of the children and in the leadership of the nest. He excelled as an educator and as a guide to the audience. In 1948 he participated in the battle for Mishmar HaEmek and at the end of his studies he moved with his group to a training period in Upper Galilee – in Lahavot Habashan and in Kashmir. In March 1949 he returned to his kibbutz but at the end of that year he went to France to visit his parents who were there on a mission. In January 1950 he returned to Israel and joined the army. He was one of the first commanders in the Nahal Brigade, and on 9 Tevet 5711 (18.12.1950) he fell while fulfilling his duties and was brought to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Ma’abarot. On the anniversary of his death, the kibbutz published a booklet in his memory.
