Yaron (Freiberger), Reuven


Reuven, son of Irena and Shalom Freiberger, was born in 1932 in Osijek, Yugoslavia. All of Reuven’s family perished in the Holocaust. Only he survived and joined a group of orphans, who in 1943 arrived by train via Turkey to Palestine. In June 1952, Reuven was drafted into the IDF and served in the Nahal Brigade, serving mainly in the northern region. At that time he changed his surname to Yaron. On the 29th of Cheshvan (November 3, 1956) he fell in battle in the Dahab region. Reuven was twenty-four years old when he fell. He left behind a wife. He was buried in Eilat. On 30.1.1958, he was transferred to eternal rest in the Sha’ar Ha’amakim cemetery.
