Yarkoni, Yaakov


Son of Mordechai and Luba, members of Kibbutz Naan. He enlisted in August 1964 and arrived at the Armored Corps Patrol, where he spent a long time before completing his military service, and returned to the Armored Corps. On the first day of her battles, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (June 5, 1967), Yaakov served as commander of a jeep patrol in the battle that took place at the Rafiah junction. In an assault on the outpost he was injured in his hand, but he continued to storm through a minefield at the enemy positions, adhering to the mission, and by doing so he was severely wounded again and at the time of his evacuation he died of his wounds. He was buried in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery and was later transferred to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Na’an. For his courage and dedication, his service was praised by the GOC Southern Command. After they fell they were promoted to captain. On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his death, Kibbutz Na’an published “Memory Leaves” in his memory. In the book “Armored Patrol” published by members of the weapons were dedicated pages in memory. Hakibbutz Hame’uchad’s memoir “Who Fell in the War” was mentioned. In the book “Five who fell – in memory”, published by Kibbutz Naan, his name was immortalized. In Gogli Esh, vol. 4, the school bag of the sons of the fallen soldiers in Israel, was brought from his estate.
