Yarkoni, Oded
Son of Yehezkel HaKohen and Carola. He was born on June 29, 1943 in Tel Aviv. He was a descendant of rabbis who had come from Poland for generations. He completed his studies at the Ussishkin Elementary School, and later studied at Stefandia in an urban high school. But after two years he wanted to work – but he did not neglect his studies because of his day work and enrolled in an Arab high school. Was a devoted son to his parents. When he finished 11th grade he entered the IDF (August 1961) and gave up his last year of studies. With great enthusiasm, he volunteered for the paratroopers – and this was despite the wishes of his parents. After a while, he was traded to the paratroopers’ patrol and was a radio operator. He was courteous and polite, cheerful and kind, loved books and light music and had plans for the future – and among other things he aspired to sign up for regular service after his regular service, but on the 7th of Av 5723 (28.7.1963) he died and was put to rest at home – the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, his memory was raised in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Wars of the Paratroopers”
