Yakkov Reuveni
Yaakov (Kobi), son of Shoshana and Hanoch z “l, was born on 27.1.1954 in Holon. Yaakov was drafted into the IDF in late 1972 and was accepted to a pilots’ course, but Nesher was at the end of the “consolidation.” Kobi regretted that he had been interested in flying since childhood, and believed that his departure stemmed from his ability to consider others and consult them. He was a good and disciplined soldier who tried to live in peace with his commanders and with his comrades in the company, and he made efforts to improve the living conditions of the company, especially in Ta’az. One prepared meals for all the “guys”. On Yom Kippur, when the war broke out, he signed the equipment of the entire company. He knew the tank well, and knew how to handle everythingExcept for him. His commanders trusted him and made him very angry. Toward the end of the Tank Command Course, his commanders pressed him to study in an officers’ course. Kobi, who did not want a military career, hesitated, and while hesitating, the war broke out … Even while in military service, Kobi maintained close ties with his parents’ home, and tried to remove their concern. He wrote a great deal, and when he came for vacations he tried to spend long hours with them. On the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (7.10.1973), in the central sector near the canal, Kobi’s tank was hit by an ambush. He continued to advance through the damaged tank to the waterline, where he discovered he was cut off and surrounded by enemies. When Kobi tried to get out of the tank he was shot and killed. After about a month, the family was informed that he was missing, and after a few days – the announcement that he was missing in enemy territory. It was only four months later that his body was identified. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and sister. (Two months after his burial his father died of a Lev attack). After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His family published a pamphlet in his memory, which included stories about his character and his work from relatives, teachers, friends and friends.
