Harel studied seriously, invested heavily and was very successful in his studies. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement in Gan Yavneh and served as a counselor in the movement for a long time. He devoted a lot of time to this activity and was very devoted to his students. Every Sabbath evening, with great perseverance, he gave his students lectures in current events. He was a sports fan and played football, basketball and bodybuilding. Harel was a very serious guy and liked to read, especially professional literature and religious literature. He showed great interest in computers, software and computer applications. Harel joined the IDF in early July 1987. He was sent to the course of the Technological Reserve, and was sent to serve at the IAF base at Hatzerim. Harel was very pleased with his appointment, and after completing compulsory service he continued his career service. In February 1997, with the closure of the squadron where he served in Hatzerim, Harel was appointed head of the Lab staff at the Armored Corps Maintenance Center, at the Palmachim base, and was awarded the rank of Major General Harel took great interest in his new position, quickly absorbed himself and studied the electro-optics systems. Despite the fact that he entered a new professional field and a new framework, Harel stood out with great dedication and professionalism, and within a short time he had acquired a new system in the IAF and established an advanced maintenance infrastructure for it. Harel’s quality stood out in the workshop and in the unit, and a year after his arrival, he received a unit excellant (which is not routine, and more significant because the unit is a fourth level unit). Harel spent many hours promoting the systems under his responsibility and teaching new soldiers. The characteristics that stood out among Harel were modesty, eHumility and dedication. “
