Yair, Ezra


Son of Naomi and Joseph, was born on June 12, 1930 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, and made aliya to Jerusalem in 1931. Because of material distress, he left his studies at a young age and moved to work in the laundromat. During his spare time, he participated in “Hapoel” activities, especially in boxing and soccer. Was a member of the “Young Guard” of the Palestine Workers’ Party and as a member of the Haganah joined the ranks of the fighters on November 28, 1947, one day before the UN resolution on the partition of Palestine, and became one of the first volunteers. After a few weeks he volunteered to defend the Old City and stood there for six months, until the day of surrender, and he expressed his faith in the victory. On the day of the fall of the Old City in the hands of the Arabs, Ezra fell on the “lease” and was buried in a mass grave in the quarter The monument was erected in the military battle house on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem in August 1967 and was brought to eternal rest in a grave on the Mount of Olives.
