In 1977 he decided to join the regular army. He was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. During his service, Shalom married a wife and the couple had four children. On the 27th of Shvat 5744 (27.1.1984), a sergeant was killed while serving in the military cemetery in Netanya, leaving behind a wife, three daughters, a son, a father, two brothers and a sister. “His death was typical of his way of life throughout the period that was with us – that quiet, kindness and devotion”
