Yacobi, Avraham (Avreszka)


Avraham, son of Dina and Shem-Tov Yacobi, was born on the 12th of Tishrei 5724 (22.9.1923) in the Marranos of Mashhad in Iran. The family immigrated to Israel in 1927 and settled in Jerusalem. During the War of Independence, he held special positions, passed a commanders’ course and was called “Deputy Avraham”. Avraham fell in the battle to defend Jerusalem, on the 14th of Iyar 5708 (May 23, 1948). On his way to sabotage the building next to the police school, he stepped on a mine and was killed. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
