Yaakov-Shagdari, Yair
Son of Salamah and Abraham, was born on 10.11.1956 in Moshav Tarom, in the Jerusalem corridor, where Yair was the seventh son of a large family, and his parents immigrated to Israel from Yemen in Operation Magic Carpet, Matityahu “in Moshav Tzalfon, at the time, the economic situation was difficult and Yair’s family lived in a very difficult situation, and Yair decided to continue studying at the Bnei Akiva high school, Or Etzion, in the center of Shafir. During his high school studies, Yair found time for social activities in the Bnei Akiva youth movement. And a soldier in the Armored Corps, and after completing his service, he was discharged with the rank of sergeant and commander of a tank. Yair turned to continue his studies. He was accepted to the preparatory program for discharged soldiers, and then continued to study in Rehovot, at the Hebrew University’s Faculty of Agriculture. When he finished his studies, Yair went to the United States for about eight months, with his girlfriend who came to Israel as an immigrant. When he returned to Israel, he was hired as a regional planner in the Jewish Agency’s Settlement Department in the mountain region. He intended to marry his girlfriend and establish a family in Israel. However, when the Peace for Galilee war broke out, Yair was called up for reserve duty. During the battles in the eastern sector, Yair’s tank was hit by a missile fired at our forces. On the 11th of Kislev, 5762 (11.6.1982), Yair fell in battle and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, where he left behind his parents, brothers and sisters and donated a Torah scroll to his synagogue in Moshav Tarom.
