Wolfensohn, Yosef-Chaim

Son of Yonah and Zalman Zeev. He was sent by the “Chish” to the course of the Gush Etzion commanding officers and returned there after seven weeks with the last group of defenders who arrived in Jerusalem and was sent to “Mekor Chaim” and participated in the attack on the flour mill in the village of Beit Safafa. For two months he worked as a counselor at the Araza convalescent home near Motza, and during the last days before the end of the course he participated in repelling an Arab attack. Was one of the planners of the attack on the railway station in Jerusalem and succeeded in conquering it with his squad. He was sent to Ramat Rahel, where he was severely wounded in battles with the Egyptians, and he lay there for several hours with his stomach bleeding and exhausted, crawling toward one of the posts. Was taken to the Hadassah Hospital for surgery and was brought to the hospital in a difficult condition, received blood transfusions, but the doctors’ efforts to save him were in vain. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
