Winebregr, Shamai


Son of Miriam and Haim-Zvi, was born in 1930 in the city of Khust, Czechoslovakia. As a son of religiously observant parents, he was also educated in the spirit of religion. He completed his studies at the elementary school and went to study in Yeshivah. In 1936 he immigrated with his parents to Israel and the family settled in Jerusalem. For material reasons, he was forced to stop his studies and help his parents earn a living. Shamai worked in the shop, was a member of the Haganah and participated in the defense of the city. At the beginning of the War of Independence, he served as a motorcycle liaison between the positions in the city. On August 27, 1948, Arabs attacked a surprise attack on Motza, He was found dead in the Sanhedria cemetery in Jerusalem 12 days later.
