Winder, Joseph

Son of Sabina and David, was born on July 25, 1947 in Poland and began his studies in the country of his birth in 1956. He immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1956 and settled in Tel Aviv, Where Balfour moved to Holon and continued his studies at the Kugel High School, where he studied until the 10th grade, and later began working as a warehouse worker in an industrial factory, and in August 1965 he joined the IDF and served in the infantry. After training, he underwent professional courses and served as a warehouseman in the maintenance corps. Yosef participated in the Six-Day War and was promoted to the rank of corporal in July 1968. At the end of 1968, he was discharged from regular service and was marked by his commander as a soldier with a quick grasp, He married and settled in Petach Tikvah, and was sent to professional courses in the IDF during his reserve service. Joseph continued to serve in the reserves, fought in the Yom Kippur War and in the Peace for Galilee War, which he was called in July 1983. On August 6, 1983, while on a short vacation at home, he fell during his service. He was 36 when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Petah Tikva. He left behind a wife, three children, parents and a brother. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Corporal Yosef served in the unit for several years. He turned out to be a diligent soldier dedicated to his job. Six always help his friends. Work in very difficult situations in a good way. Was admired and accepted by the soldiers of the unit. He will be remembered among us as a model soldier “
