Son of Tibor and Gita. Born on 2 February 1947 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, and immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel in 1949. Ilan was a good-hearted, comfortable, disciplined, and friendly boy, and he remained in his elementary school at Kiryat Hayim Elementary School. He was an athlete and was active in the “Hapoel” service there and in the “Maccabi Hatzair” movement and even took a instructors’ course, he was a good swimmer and he won certificates in competitions, he was an avid reader and especially he loved literature and poetry. He fulfilled his role with faith and success so much that he was sent to a company commanders course before many of his classmates. Thanks to him, the atmosphere in the intelligence unit was wonderful. In calm times he used to sit down with all the guys, laugh with them and tell stories. Some would read books of poetry, analyze a literary passage and pass it under criticism.
