Wilner, Naftali-Eliezer
Son of Shifra and Shlomo, Naftali-Eliezer was born on February 7, 1925 in Safed, to an old family in Israel, the descendents of Rabbi Ya’akov of Lissa. As a boy, his parents moved to Jerusalem and settled there.At the beginning of the War of Independence he witnessed the explosion on son of-Yehuda Street in Jerusalem and helped save the wounded. The next day he got up and joined the army, to the Noam troop. After a short training period, he was sent to escort convoys to Mount Scopus and participated in the battles for the breakthrough to Jerusalem. During Operation Nachshon, he was one of the defenders of the Kastel, who was in constant Arab attacks. On April 8, 1948, a heavy attack was carried out, and under pressure from the enemy, the defenders were forced to retreat. In this battle he fell on the 28th of Adar 5708 (1948) and was buried in Ma’ale Hachamisha. On the 19th of Kislev 5714 (19.11.1953) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
