Wilensky, Michael (“Mickey”)
Son of Dov Halevi and a committee. He was born on 26.5.1952 in Rehovot, studied at Yehezkel Elementary School and graduated from the Tagger High School in Ashkelon. Mickey was a member of the Scouts movement, took part in the Gadna activities as an outstanding shooter and won first place in the shooting competition of the Ashkelon Shooting Club, although he was shy and withdrawn and even suffered from speech difficulties. He studied stamps in many fields, and planned to continue his studies at the Technion in Haifa, where he joined the IDF in early August 1970 and was assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he was trained as a tank gunner, and throughout this period he served in the front lines. He was known as an excellent gunner. During his service, too, Mickey was closed and isolated, but he never complained about the difficulties of his job and was careful to do everything he needed. He was devoted to his comrades in the unit and often took responsibility for the act or omission of one of the soldiers, although this was unpleasant. On the 7th of Tammuz, 5773 (July 1973), Sergeant Michael was killed while serving in the Ashkelon cemetery, and in a letter of condolences to the family, his commander said that Michael was “an outstanding soldier and an excellent tank gunner.
