Wiessand, Chaim

Son of Zvia and Avraham, was born in 1921 in Lodz, Poland. After World War II, he devoted himself to the smuggling of Jewish immigrants from Europe to Israel. For this purpose, he stayed in various camps in Gendewald (near Innsbruck) in Austria and in Milan, Italy. When the War of Independence broke out in Israel he stopped his activities and immigrated to Israel. Chaim arrived in Haifa on the day the city was conquered and immediately joined the Alexandroni Brigade. He participated in the battles of Ein Ghazal, Tantura, Tira and Kula. He fell on the 19th of Kislev 5709 (21.12.1948) in a battle in Khirbat Sika, around Beit Joubrine. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot.
